Unlike other posters I have walked on the Burup Peninsula
and had a good look at the "carvings"
They are scratches on the soft limestone/siltstone.
What a joke to claim the most important LNG and condensate site
in the world to tie up the area for scattered rubble.
They would be better of claiming Point Piper, Martin Place or Pitt Street.
This map gives an idea of the size/proximity of the resource and the billions poured in by Woodside and a host of other companies.
What a try on.
There are of course no roads - My GXL LCruiser cloth seats could not go, and I got a ride with fitters in a launch
who were checking pipes.
Australia is the second biggest LNG exporter behind Qatar.
It is a short and easy drive from Karratha, past the Red Dog to Dampier.
Accommodation is another hassle.
I wanted to stay for a month, had to settle for less.
I rented a donga converted from a shipping container
with AC.
A damp tea towel was good to open the car door
no shade.
There is a very good reason there are not big pictures of
rock art,
It's scratches (could be kangas) on sandstone.
