Is Ukraine a sovereign state under the Westphalian legal concept of sovereignty?
A crucial element in Westphalian sovereignty is the absence of a role of foreign agents in the internal structures of the state. The doctrinal requirements for a violation of sovereignty require either a territorial intrusion, the element of coercion, or the usurpation of an inherently governmental function. The Maidan coup of 2014 destroyed Ukrainian sovereignty. The issue is this. Was Ukraine a sovereign state prior to 24 February 2022? Clearly not.
