FYI brokers are obsessed with hiding their activity. This is why they lobbied against the old 'Broker ID', and won.

They trade with comparatively very little fees. This is their main advantage in the market - they can trade small amounts all day long without worrying about the cost.

If you see a big trade go through it's more likely it's an individual or "retail" trader acting for themselves aka mumndad.

However broker's trading desks do use feint techniques in the market depth, which the likes of us refer to as 'props' (bid) and 'walls' (offers). These rarely go through but instead float just out of range.

An additional factor is the gentleman's agreement that large trades should avoid "moving the market" excessively - this is the cover story for putting through 1000s of small trades in either direction to maintain a range and stimulate supply or demand, as the case may be.
