The opposite has happened.

Now that Europe and LBMA compile with Basel 3, comex has gained more dominance
of the precious metal markets,

with massive paper contracts being a greater proportion of the traded volume.
Back in March last year when nickel and gold peaked, comex changed conditions of delivery
and gold has trended down since then.
i.e. Settle buy gold contracts with fiat US$ instead of Physical Gold.
