Interesting site:
Out of a typical price of $11.25 for a packet of cigarettes, "53.4% is accounted for by federal excise duty on tobacco, and a further 9.1% by GST, bringing total taxes to 62.5% of final price."
Taking into account, "all excise and custom duties, ad valorem business fees and goods and services taxes applicable". the total taxation equates to 68%.
i.e out of $11.25 paid, consumers are paying $7.65 in taxes.
