If your short a stock you have to pay the dividend!
Make sure you don't get caught with that one.
If you close out your position before ex div date and reopen after you will avoid and recieve interest payments on your short position as well as your dividends from the long position.
The most important thing to remember is that by hedging you are not just taking away downside risk, you will also be losing any upside benefits.
