No, despite my current upset there are several reasons for not pulling out at present. Various people, including our esteemed CEO, have pointed out the need for several LAMPS to meet the growing demand for REs. Lynas is relying on continuing downstream LAMP production to meet its expansion plans.
And it would take several years and a lot of capital to fully replace the now expanded and improved LAMP capabilities.
Then there’s the highly skilled and very loyal workforce there that Amanda and others have carefully nurtured and developed over many years. 98% of skilled LAMP staff are Malaysian.
But finally, there are also important strategic reasons for keeping Malaysian and ASEAN as close friends. We have paid a lot to develop our good and fairly deep relations with all ASEAN nations. I strongly believe this outweighs recent and current business-related political disagreements.
I’ve seen very encouraging evidence of our Ambassador’s, and especially Japan’s, strong support for Lynas Malaysia - and imho Anwar would ultimately ignore this at his peril.
