Sorry, I seldom express my opinion on HotCopper, but after
reading your comment on MRC yesterday I couldn't hold back on my lippant reply.
You have been a follower of MRC for a long time to be familiar with their corporate ventures.
For the more recent fans of MRC, please to some research on
their departure from Fortescue Metal, or their proposed joint venture with erebus and subsequent failure in Sierra Leone, and maybe Oil exploration to name just a few.
If there is a medal to be given for eroding shareholder value, MRC truly deserves it.
The reason they are still around is their holding in ALD, which they are reducing in order to stay afloat.
(BTW the way ALD has been managed in the past does not stand
out as a beacon of maximising shareholder value either.
(only my opinion)).
They basically halved their holding in ALD over the last couple of years.
I have been holding a sizable number of shares in MRC for
a long time but since have written them off. Maybe they will
surprise me one day, but my 27 years of experience in the
financial world is telling me not to be optimistic.
To value MRC, I guess you need to focus on their Tormin
project. It is in no way easy to put a fair valuation on
Tormin and I don't find MRC's announcements conducive at all.
But if memory serves me right, I did come up with a rather
small figure a couple of years back.
I don't want to disclose it on this forum, since I have no
way to back it up at the moment.
And Xolobeni you might ask? I dont't know, but what I know
is, as longer it is dragging on, as less likely it is, that
it will eventuate.
