Good question ,I do not have 1 cent in Super. How do you feel now about me preaching how tough my life was before I retired. I will never retire Sir , and why should I retire when I still have the ability to work and give some thing back to the country that has put a roof over my head and the heads of 5 generations of my family before me.
Super is not for me. I refuse to give my hard earned dollars to any one else to manage.
I manage my own life , my own finances , my own family , my own future , my own business .
I do pretty well , albeit I do have very bad years, (i.e. ) I lost millions during Covid.
What do you do on Sundays Sir ? I work , I work harder and faster than any man you have ever seen , I work in the rain , the sun , I dig holes , I am very good with a pick , however I specialise in crow bars , big fat crow bars many people can not lift, I can still hang off one of those all day.
That was my Sunday today , digging out tree stumps all day in the rain. Loved it , I lost 2 kilos , ( mostly just fluid Ill replace that with a bott of red later on ) the pain I had in my back this morning is gone , my hands and fingers are sore and wrinkled from sweat and rain, my socks and boots are full of mud, I have scratches all over my legs from the razor grass and the wait a while. I now feel like I just won the lottery , why do I do this , because I can, I don't need too , I could sit in a coffee shop eating Cake drinking expensive Coffee all day whinging about the latest rubbish in the SMH or on the ABC, or I could simply give up and stay in bed.
Just on the super thing , I do pay hundreds of thousands in Super on behalf of my staff, they all get their Super every fortnight.
That hurts , I would prefer to give it to them direct not some fund backed by a Government I have lost all respect for.
But it is what it is.
Redundancy and retirement , same same , If you don't use it you will lose it , I shiver at the thought of one day being unable to get out of bed at 5 in the morning and go to work, I feel blessed that the Good Lord lets me work at my age , many my age can not. I feel for them , and I feel for the ones that will never feel the benefits nor the self respect gained from a life time of slogging your guts out day in day out.
I must point out most of the slogging has been for me and mine, would I work like that for some one else , yes I would and yes I have , but the dream was always to do it for me and mine, while helping as many others as I could along the way.
Enjoy your retirement ole son.
