Some CFD providers offer synthetic CFDs. They can hedge if they wish (probably depends on the track record of the trader).
Some CFD providers offer Direct Market Access, where the trade goes directly into the market and the trader can see the trade in the market. With DMA, actual shares are always bought or sold.
