    Socialists just don't get it.

We have a taxation system in place that taxes companies a percentage of their profits. Some socialists understand a little bit about how it works because they don't mind it when some peeple go broke because they recognise that there is some risk involved and therefore some people deserve it.

But don't let a socialist see you do too well, thank you, because that becomes "not fair and equitable"

So if there's a resources boom don't forget that we all "own" what's in the land so the standard rate of taxation that a miner pays might not now be enuff - fank you very much we deserve more. Don't argue that the miners are paying their share, that the flow on to the economy is significant (not to say massive), we need it to be fair and equitable which means we are going to tax your super profits at a higher rate than anybody else pays.

It's a bit like a cargo cult - the money will keep coming anyway. Plus of course the majority don't care if it's the greedy miners and disgusting o'seas shareholders getting shafted, just as long as it's not them.

And, Mr Miner, while we are doing it you need to understand that you are actually going to be better off - just think laterally. Read Swannie's piece.
