Bundalee,
"this governement has 'buckley's' of getting this through and even less chance of re-election (this comes from a traditional ALP supporter)."
I agree with that. A cool head looking at the situation will say that:
- The Rudd Government has been going backward in the polls
- Even if the Rudd Government IS re-elected, their numbers in the senate will drop
- The Coalition will gain more seats in the Senate (and, they may even win the election)
- Independents and Greens are likely to also gain, because Tony Abbott is not the most popular Liberal leader. Labor will lose seats, Libs gain some, but third parties will gain big time this election.) = POLITICAL STALEMATE
So, objectively, what chance has this legislation in getting enacted? VERY LITTLE, imo. Like most pieces of legislation (the ETS is a classic example), political stalemate is the most likely outcome. Especially after this election.
So, before we all start throwing ourselves off bridges (oops, too late for some today), STOP, and THINK, about what is actually likely to happen.
ESG took a battering today. Major projects will still go ahead. But the real question is, will Santos smell blood in the water..?
