Even my "commercial" math is telling me that it can't be $$savings he is looking for, cause having to include even 25% more battery minerals in each EV in order to maintain EV range, so that you "don't have to use RE in your motor magnets" does not compute as a saving. REs for what they do....improve the efficiency of motor magnets... cost relatively nothing in comparison to having to add more battery capacity.
The Tesla statement is simply an ESG "plug" saying "look at us we are trying" What he needed to announce was that he was signing up with a non-Chinese ESG positive producer of NdPr which has all its approvals in place and waste management approved by a friendly reliable Govt AND supplying them with Strategic Equity ie all the funding they need, to get them producing for Tesla by 2026.
So there I got that off my chest.
