After taking $2.7 billion from taxpayers during COVID-19, only a minority of which was from the then Federal Coalition Government's JobKeeper scheme,it's ironic that QAN has full page ads in papers trumpeting how it's hiring for 8,500 positions.
Some is due to natural attrition, and yes, businesses do have to plan ahead but with a huge recession likely, it's typical of the shocking businesses that airlines including QAN are that it decides to go on a hiring spree. Badly timed.
But institutions and mums/dads are still sucked in by the hyperbole from the soon to depart Alan Joyce and his executives.
