I’ve refrained from getting involved in the whole will she / won’t she capital raising discussion as to me it seemed pretty pointless and in some cases was just designed to create as much FUD as possible. However, it is an issue that has been nagging away at the back of my mind and I can’t get it to go away.

A key question remains unanswered in my mind. Why are WBT undertaking a series of investor roadshows if they are not intending to raise capital. You don’t go to this much effort just to raise investor awareness and hope that you generate piecemeal interest. I think you do it to generate interest to activate a book building exercise to support a major capital raise.

The same rationale applies when considering why is Coby prioritising retail investor briefings over the embedded world industry event. He doesn’t come here for the hits and giggles.

Now, if management have decided in their wisdom that now is the right time to undertake a capital raise then I’m all for it. Particularly if we have a strong vwap to anchor the inevitable discount. However, I would prefer any raise be undertaken after a suitably exciting commercialisation announcement (customer / tier 1).

I know I’m going to get pulverised for this but to me it’s the only rationale for the current activity.

Could he be coming to announce a major deal that gets released to market in concert with his visit? Maybe but he hasn’t bothered to do that previously. He just gets on with his job.
