Melbourne is stuffed full of fund managers. I reckon if they smelled AA looking to take HUM private they would wade in and try and get a piece of the action and that alone would force the SP up markedly.
I do however subscribe to your thinking process about what AA is up to. I think John Wylie and Tanarra Investments has kept is +5% holding so that too would be a thorn in AA's side if he wanted to take HUM private.
