I am not sure how frequently this happens but the options on a stock that makes up the majority of my portfolio expired well out of the money on August 2009.To managements credit they seeked ASX and Shareholder approval for the following proposal.
1 for 1 new options offered to holders of lapsed options @ 0.001c
1 for 5 new options offered to ordinary share holders @ 0.001c
Approval was granted and these new options are currently trading around 0.04c.
I am not saying this will happen but I wouldnt give up on the options just yet.
