I went down this rabbit hole recently to find alternatives to my graphite stocks, hedge my bets. Currently the best practice for using silicon in anodes is the "drop-in" or "doping" approach. You introduce a relatively small percentage (typically <10%) of a silicon-based product into the mix to boost some performance metrics, and you can do all of this without needing to change anything major about the existing battery design. When silicon is used this way the majority of the anode is still graphite by volume. Just one industry opinion but [This top BMW engineer] thinks solid-state silicon anodes are sure thing in the future, but still says we may not see them in full EV production until 2030.
In my reading I also found a lot of marketing fluff, often making it seem like silicon anodes are replacing graphite anodes right now! Turns out many of these solutions are are actually "drop-in" products like I mentioned above, but marketed as "silicon anode alternatives". Yes they are replacing graphite in the anode, but only some graphite, not all of it. Here's a few examples:
Group14 - Commercial production underway for SCC55.
Article saying they have a "Silicon-carbon product that can replace conventional graphite anodes"
https://www.geekwire.com/2023/go-inside-group14-the-3b-startup-with-a-secret-tech-for-better-batteries/
Then from Group14 themselves, they say it's yet another drop-in product, and the example they use is a 20% blend.

Store-Dot. - Planned production 2024.
"Silicon-Dominant" being the key word here. Much of what you read about this company indicates they've found a solution for creating a mostly silicon anode, ready for production. https://www.store-dot.com/blog/silicon-dominant-anodes-pave-the-way-for-future-li-ion-ev-batteries
However this article would indicate that "Si-Dominant" is 40% silicon, so there's some marketing shenanigans at play. Still impressive nonetheless, one to keep an eye on. https://www.teslarati.com/storedot-ev-battery-1000-extreme-fast-charging-cycles/
The 100% silicon anode is a tough nut to crack. Enovix is a good company to mention because it does actually look like they have found a solution, and targeting batteries for wearables and small electronics. One article says they plan to begin looking at EV applications in 2025 if all goes well.
Tesla themselves were very excited to share plans and development for 80-100% silicon anodes from 2024-2025 but I haven't seen any updates on that for a while either. As thecsguy mentioned, even with a good solution it takes time to actually scale these things up.
The time will come though. Battery materials/anode focused companies will need to adapt. But for now it definitely looks like the graphite/battery materials industry can still grow.
