When you look at states like WA with so much nature gas it would be stupid to just ignore it as a power source. Windmills and solar panels are great but they aren't made here and the energy / materials that go into manufacturing them mostly aren't coming from renewables. Gas will 100% be required going forward for the foreseeable future.
