We get it, it costs money to mine gold from underground, even if its close to existing or planned development, that's why we have drill rigs, geologists and engineers to find out the dimensions and grade of the orebody and estimate the mining costs to see if its an economically extractable resource or not. It's also why gold companies in production publish AISC costs on a quarterly basis to give people an idea of the cost of current mining operations and the trend in that cost of production.
If it was zero cost to mine gold, then everyone in the world would have a gold mine everywhere....
