My understanding is that this is phase one of a system that will take 25 years.
Everyone is aware that we cannot continue to survive on fossil fules but at the same time we cannot crush companies that provide the basic needs for survival.
The labour goverment has stated that if the current measures threaten the viability of any major company they will step in and alter the system, the greens were not happy with the statement of the clause in the agreement.
My belief is that battery vehicles are a short sighted solution (because resources are not infinite) and we will see futher development in Hydrogen technology, I think Woodside will be a front runner in that industry along with Fortisque metals.
Carbon offsets are only a short term measure, and it will "without a doubt" increase the costs of energy.
If they break companies like Woodside they will break the economy, so they poke & prod them to move in the right direction which will be decades from now.
LNG is a transitional energy source.
