I believe that comment can be taken whatever way someone wants to believe, while being neutral. Also he can hardly come out and say they're going to expire worthless the same as he can't say they will be worth X. Frankly things are not looking good for option holders and if he promised they wouldn't expire worthless and they did (which on balance is what is likely to happen), I suspect there would be some issues around the MD being seen to manipulate the price.
