Nice post but I suspect shorters do not get burned at all.
Did it occur to anyone that these scum work together?
1) The potential buyer gets the likes of GS etc to short the target to hell so they can make a lowball deal.
2)The offer is made.
3) Following the rise in SP to the target price offer (See LTR) which is from shorts closing position.
4) The buyer then pays the shorters a fee plus covers their short loss position.
For example in this case the buyer will most likely take over LTR in the end for a few billion less than they should due to low SP because of their shorter mates. From that few billion discount they cover the shorters losses - i.e a few hundred million. See the result? No short burn and everyone is happy.
