Also, this is only a single LNG Trade. LNG is typically sold on a per cargo basis. That is for every LNG Tanker delivery.
These are very complicated transaction. Upon delivery the buyer can be required to split the payment for the cargo to various parties including; the LNG producers (sometime multiple parties) and the bankers of the LNG Producers, the owners of the LNG Plant (often different percentages than producers) and their bankers, the owner(s) of the LNG vessel and the bankers that financed the vessel, and also the government of the producing country if they get a production share. As there are multiple transactions here, not all the transactions may have been in Yuan. Maybe it was only the payment to CNOOC as one party to the transaction.
I have a friend who worked for one LNG producer and used to be involved with these trades and he would have to fly to Tokyo whenever they made an delivery to Japan.
