My take on this for what its worth is that MCO are still nimble enough and early enough in the evolution to take advantage of any loop holes that may exist.
It was very interesting today to read FMG's anouncement on the Inplications of the resources super profits tax. It's worth a read. It essentially anounces that 30,000 jobs are placed on hold because of the decision to stop work on 2 major hubs. That doesn't include the flow on effect on juniors hoping to use their infrastructure. Andrew Forrest is a very smart dude announcing this. He's probably hoping that all majors announce something similiar. As devastating as this news is to the people in these rural areas, it finally gives the opposition enough amunition to bury this government and this tax.
Unfortunately the Mrs Brown's and Mr Stephen's from all walks of life have to vote so it has to be a simple message that they can understand, and not the complicated scenarios we are hearing. If other major Australian and overseas companies here in Australia follow Fortesques lead, we will see at least 0.5% more unemployment, yields down on superannuations, tax revenue down from investors cgt and the government having to raise other taxes.
If the opposition can use simple ammo like this, they are in with a chance.
