PaidUp, you do have an arguement however per google, less than 1% of the vehicles in the US are electric. in order for electric vehicles to replace current ICE vehicles, cost is a major issue for alot of the public. charging options outside of the home for driving is a major issue and that infrastructure is years away. most of the US is not housed in cities. questions of battery repair costs in alot of peoples minds need clarified and the EV transition is too new yet to give that comfort. and as you stated, the US has drifted away from cars to trucks and large suv's. towing has proven under current technology to be a potential issue as the large drain for a pickup pulling a travel trailer or large boat greatly reduces the area they can travel. they will solve these issues but again i dont think that will be a quick fix at least in the US.
