By 1141 AEST on Easter Tuesday, 11 April 2023, LAU's SP had significantly risen by 5.85 per cent to A$1.085, up six cents on reasonable volume of 828,647.
'Mr Market' has temporarily cast off his moth-eaten, stained 'grumpy suit' and has decided he likes the company. Savour while it lats, but on a more serious note, scrip purchasers believe that the recent upheaval in the normally boring freight and logistics sector might benefit Lindsay Transport with the possibility of at least slightly higher rates being chargeable per tonne-kilometre.
It'll be interesting in a few months to learn via the AGM if LAU has benefitted from new clients who previously used Scott's Refrigerated Transport.
While many in the community oppose what is perceived as a 'Ponzi scheme', increased immigration will help to maintain consumer demand, although we can't deny that higher mortgage interest rates and inflation are hurting consumers. If the latter merely switch to (say) private label supermarket ranged items instead of branded products, the supermarkets' own brands still have to be transported around the nation (and in many cases also from overseas).
It's if shoppers buy fewer items that concern would kick in. So far, media articles are not en masse suggesting this, but watch this space.
