You are underestimating the likelihood of what’s going to happen when new EVs become cheaper than the corresponding ICEV.
This could happen at any time in the next 1-3 years.
Let us say that, one day in the next 3 years, there comes a new EV car at least as good as the Tesla model 3 is today, costs A$30000 or less, and is available in volume.
At that point, all Corollas, Mazda 3s and other similar ICEVs suddenly become unsellable. The EV now not only costs less to run but actually costs less to buy than the ICEV.
It’s going to happen. Before 2030.
