There has been plenty of opinion posted as fact today, and while none of these links are conclusive, the dry certainty of your post adds gravitas...

Not surprising when a counter was a coin toss at best given the vibes, TLEA never made a lot of sense in the first place TBH. Then there was that dude preparing the ground for IGO not to look like dogs also because "the JV relationship with Tianqi isn;t going so well". The price pre-MIN raid and post-MIN raid hardly signalled a lot of insiders expecting TLEA to compete. One must assume they had cold feet for some time.

What I am surprised about is the ugly speed in spreading it to the press 'at home' instead of having the respect and decency to allow ESS to communicate it to the market first. A double dog act so to speak. Confirms that doing deals with two-dogs hasn't changed much these last 15 years, for those old enough to remember how many deals post GFC were walked away from.

Can't believe they went to all that effort selling ESS on the plan with their best price first up, no back-up if MIN bought an interest, nothing in reserve if holders voted 50c no. Assume they changed their minds, but still poor form. That leaves MIN with an open field rather. So many posters here very confident MIN will pay up big to own the rock... now we find out. Nervous much? Common sense says MIN is the natural buyer for Dome Nth as satellite feed, but timing and price is the question. Will he dog us like the others did, or make some effort at a counter bid despite us being trussed up like a turkey for Christmas? Maybe MIN only came in late when 'someone' said TLEA are desperate to get out, you'd actually be doing us a favour blocking the bid (especially if one JV partner wasn;t very happy... woof, woof, two dogs)?

Unless one had inside information, TLEA's actions were uncertain as MIN's next and ongoing actions. Appreciate the logic if you predicted this move with logic, well done. All the baseless, revisionist, I guessed the coin toss posters wanting to dance on graves is going to be distasteful. Otherwise we wait to see just how benevolent, or not, our new overlord is...
