Dare say that today's whipsaw swings on volume were a tactic to wipe the top lines to tease out the sellers for some follow through selling. The holders of borrowed shares won't want to have to pay more than they have to and if their buy orders (shorts) get covered and then some, its likely that they will spend some profit buying shares and top up their free-carried holdings.If only it was a different macro market.
