The fundamental point is that the Lynas Mount Weld mine material is NOT radioactive in terms of the threshold for Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM) - that’s everywhere in nature. The clay bricks in all our dwellings have slight NORM that will make a Geiger counter click.
Many RE deposits have significant NORM that is sometimes a problem - but I understand our incredibly ancient volcanic deposit has about the lowest radioactivity of all RE mines.
So there is NO notifiable radioactivity anywhere in the world for the material from Mount Weld - except in Malaysia, where apparently for political and historic reasons politicians unilaterally decided to set a threshold 10 times lower than the rest of the world!
