BYD was launching their seagull with a sodium ion battery around the same time that was said to have around 300 km range but people were sceptical. They were to give a sodium ion battery option for all their lower priced cars.
I haven’t seen any objective write up yet as to how they perform and there was nothing in the article you quoted
