April 24 (Reuters) - Australian diversified miner South32 Ltd (S32) on Monday cut its annual metallurgical coal output forecast by 7% owing to challenging strata conditions at its New South Wales-based Appin Mine.

South32 said it expects to produce 6.5 million tonnes of Illawarra metallurgical coal for the year to June 2023, down from its prior forecast of 7.0 million tonnes.

The miner's third-quarter metallurgical coal production dipped more than 20% to 1.24 million tonnes.
