I have recently thought of an analogy for the gap between intrinsic value vs price by comparing it to how an employee sees their value vs what the boss sees in them. At some points we as employee think that we are worth and delivering more than we are compensated for. On the other hand the boss may think they are paying us more than what we are worth. The boss would like to see us deliver more for us to get a bonus or salary hike, which is similar to the market waiting for the company to deliver more than just stay at current known levels.

There would be times when what we are worth and what are paid may play catch-up and that could take years. If we think that gap is too much we may change jobs to bridge the gap and may be even get paid more than we are worth. This doesn’t mean once the two perspectives/ values converge that they will stay together, they continue to diverge and converge.
