I am reading that some here are questioning the viability and economics of mining the deep, low grade Ni sulphides.



Looking at hole MTD023 the second zone of mineralisation extends from about 400m to 700m deep, so it is indeed, deep. I am also aware that some of the deepest open pit mines in the world can go up to 600m and beyond. Here are a list of the deepest open pit mines in the world.

A lot of huge engineering work is required to build a mine that can go this deep. But shouldn’t be a problem for experience, large scale open pit operators like BHP.
