Another factor is that BG's extended dribbling of shares into the market increased supply of shares to short and medium-term traders. This IMO has an effect much like a CR where there is a protracted period of SP consolidation whilst individual traders take profits within their own time frames.
Putting some metrics on this, for example we have had BG sell via Shaws 1,029,749 shares between 1 January and 13 April inclusive. Total selling in this period was 9,503,600 shares. So BG's selling was 10.8% of volume. This is much like a CR with 10% increase in short-term supply into the market. The question is how long will it take for a consolidation period to play out leading to eventual volume drop-off and new opportunities for the SP to rise under positive news flow. This will IMO depend on the ratio of BG's supply that went to long-term versus short-medium term investors and the tempo of positive news flow sufficient to move the share price through resistance levels.
