There is massive concern over the short,medium and long term effct of this tax in its original non negotiable form. However the determination of the people to be heard is forcing back fip Kevvie to feel that he is indeed in an emergency situation (to save his own and labors neck). The only one calling this an emergency is Rudd...why? Is it possible that the majority of the media are seeing all the mistruths in the governments comments? Is it possible that the weight of opinion is such that Rudd is now crapping himself and will do what ever he needs to do to politically survive? Is it possible that inspite of how poor phoney Tony does and how great labor is doing during question time that the government realizes that it has shot itself in the foot and is very likely to be unceremoniously dumped if he calls an election soon? Is it at all possible that this mistake for a Prime Minister is more egostical and ruthless than the previous Prime Minister? If the answer to any of the above questions is no then why is it necessary to run a meia spin campaign? He is acting tough but running scared imo.
The one benefit will be that independent scrutinizers will look at the information and spin by both the miners and governemnt and will go to great lengths to expose any fraudulent or misleading comments by either side so at least (hopefully) the public will be in a less ignorant position in order to make an informed decision come election time. If that is the result then imo...let it happen and lets get to the truth
