I think best way to look at this is to look at the chart, what happened after the spike/high volume day.
the 3 candlestick after the spike day for SUM already show that its not going higher, and the volume are gone.
for MTM it is the opposite situation, but due to the placement the s/p has been held back, and it's done now, thats why we see it starts moving upward.
