Ceteris paribus such an announcement would still make no difference on whether the deal is actually going to happen.

We are going round in circles here but the original announcement gave an indicative timetable. Yes, in hindsight we can say that was naive or too optimistic but does it actually change the probability of the deal going ahead?

As I said a week ago lawyers have to earn their ‘gold medal’ to be relevant. It’s tedious, but renegotiating the wording on a single clause can take at least 10 working days for both parties lawyers to agree.
