It certainly is more efficient and less destructive, overall to reduce the “fighting area” when possible.

As for taking the capital in 3 days?

The Yanks could have done it in a day and a half or 2, for sure!

But it would have left the capital as a pile of rubble with a horrific amount of collateral deaths of non fighting civilians.

I understand that the Yanks favour the old Shock & Awe approach to bully those who piss them off but that doesn’t mean it’s the best way to win a conflict, in fact if we look at the “score card” of conflicts that the USA have entered since WW2 they haven’t really won much.

Sure they’ve killed heaps of people but they haven’t really improved the quality of life around the world that much (some may even suggest that they’ve made the world a little less safe).
