PacWest and Western Alliance crash as regional bank fears continue to shake markets
The Dow lost 400 points on Tuesday, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 were down 1.1% and 0.7%, respectively. The sell-off was largely driven by concerns about the future of regional financial institutions. PacWest and Western Alliance fell over 20% and had their trading suspended. Also, JPMorgan Chase’s shed 1%, giving back some of its gains from the previous session following the takeover of First Republic Bank.
Adding to the bearish sentiment, JOLTS job openings fell for the third consecutive month, reaching their lowest point in almost two years and raising concerns about a slowdown in the US economy.
