My recently passed uncle used to suddenly blurt out the most ridiculous, irrelevant remarks in the middle of a conversation. Then he'd nod and smile to himself as if he'd just said something very wise and important. There was no point asking him what he was talking about or why he'd decided this particular thing because he'd just smirk and shake his head. The rest of us would just pause for a moment in case he wanted to add anything, which he never did, and then go on with our conversations.
