As a signatory to the Budapest Memorandum, the US was obligated to defend Ukraine's territorial integrity. The US are upholding their international obligations who's original aim was to reduce nuclear proliferation and reduce the risk of nuclear war.

Russia was also a signatory to the same Budapest Memorandum, but Putin isn't one to respect any agreements and is just in general untrustworthy scum as he proceeds with his attempted Ukraine annexation (or was it denazifcation, or was desatanisation, or was it demilitaarisation or which ever reason is the false justification that his lackey are going with now).
