Nationals Senator Matt Canavan has revived the stunt made infamous by former prime minister Scott Morrison who took a lump of coal into parliament urging Labor not to be scared by the fossil fuel.
Canavan and his LNP colleague the Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt held a press conference earlier, to claim that the forecast $4 billion surplus is the result of coal production and mining.
“This surplus tonight is only due to this sector, it wouldn’t happen without them,” Canavan told Sky News, with the lump of coal sitting beside him in the Parliament House studio.
