He plays both sides of the trade - short and long. So while most of us are stuck minimising losses and generating free cash only in a falling market he is able to make profit. Many people are annoyed with him because in the early days of Li stock volatility his negative forecast posts tended to come across as gloating, arrogant and entirely unsympathetic as people lost tens or hundreds thousands when the Li stocks crashed - particularly in 2018'ish. However, in his defence, he tended to be pretty accurate with the downside targets - which he stated, and if you learned to read between the lines and ignore the tone he clearly showed what he was doing in his combination of sentiment and holding notes. He could have just shorted the stocks and told no one, but he in fact announced ahead of time what he expected to happen, and where he was going to exit and when he had he tended to state what he exited at.
In recent times he seems to have become far more sympathetic in his posts, and less aggressive, but people have not forgiven him for the highly stressful posts of years before when prices were collapsing. He tends to be cynical about all management and never falls in love with a stock, investing only for short term profit.
I, for one, pay attention to his posts and respect his good hit rate, and shut out the annoying language he sometimes uses. I appreciate that he tells us when he is stabbing the stock in the back, and tend to agree with his (apparent) position that nothing said on HC has any impact on stock price, so it really doesn't matter when people up-ramp or down-ramp: it is irrelevant, so you may as well say what you really think.
I can easily believe he could have made the claimed amount over the stated time period, particularly playing both sides of the trade. He seems to trade in decent sized chunks, leverages the trade and is more right than he is wrong but stop losses out when wrong, particularly on shorts. Volatility in Li stocks is kind of extreme and is ridiculously responsive to the short term price of LiCO3 and Spod - even when the company concerned is locked into long term multi-year contracts with only periodic relation to the spot prices.
