Some very good arguments here - and I acknowledge @Bananabender1 for sticking to his guns and ideals - which I am sure are sincere.
However I stand fundamentally opposed to 'The Voice' on constitutional and democratic grounds. In fact I am horrified that we should even be discussing writing RACE into our Constitution.
First, I want to present my views about Peter Dutton for your consideration. Because I admire him for bringing the Liberal Party to the realisation that 'The Voice' is undemocratic in its current form. Peter Dutton was formerly a Queensland policeman - think also of Mal Meninga, also a former Queensland cop, and an indigenous man, and perhaps the greatest Rugby League Kangaroo and Kangaroo coach.
Dutton went into politics because he saw that there he may make a greater difference. I think he will - as the next PM of Australia, and as a PM for all Australians.
The aboriginal peoples history and situation is complex and tragic - even though I think 'The Voice' should be rejected, we must redouble our efforts to bring those people fully into contact with our society upon their own volition. Gradually we will integrate them, we cannot go out and take them in against their wills - that has been tried, and our society was accused.
'The Voice' should eventually be of no consequence, if it ever was, but if passed, it will be permanently written into our Constitution.
Again I say, those people are our responsibility, but writing the RACE word into a special chapter of the Constitution will not help - rather the weight of bureaucracy will smother any achievement.
