what you are referring to are the quarterly index rebalances.Todays 'activity' does not fall on those scheduled dates which are usually on the last BD in Feb, May, Aug. That's the case for MSCI. S&P usually falls on the 3rd Friday after the end of each calendar quarter. I might be mistaken, but todays action looks like @rse covering to me. Pure unadulterated manipulation tactics
