Well, better cut off all official ties with the Japanese government because of WWII.

Better cut off all official ties, on principle, with the German Government because of the Holocaust.
Those institutions that allowed our political foes on the world stage to cause pain to Australians in the 20thC - i.e. parliaments - still exist. Can't make progress pointing the bone.
As for the Coronation, that was Charles' moment. Any other day people can heap s**t on the monarchy - that's their democratic right. But there IS a thing called "decency", and sometimes it's best to keep one's thoughts to one's self.
Hence the outcry.
