My wife is a kindergarten teacher - she suggest that she thinks around 25% of the parents should not have kids at all.
Unfortunately, you can't control who has kids!!
She has taught children over the last couple of years who have beeen abused physically and emotionally, are left in after school care every day for hours, and worse. Some have been sexually abused and there is one who is on methadone because his mum fed him heroine. keep in mind these kids are 5 years old and she teaches in a 'good' school.
There are three gay sets of parents at the school (with kids in various classes) and my wife asks why more parents can't be like them (one male couple and two lesbian couples). I am not sure how they came to be parents.
These (gay) couples are known to be the first to attend meetings, the first to be invovled in school activities, if issues develop they are the ones willing to work with the teachers/principal to sort them out. They are the ones to volunteer for any additional tasks and give up their own time to help not just their own kids, but other kids and the school. They are there for every school event, every paretn teacher meeting, every school fete and every sports carnival.
So my perception of this issue comes from my wife, dealing daily with heterosexual parents when she comes home in tears sometimes because of the way these kids are treated.
Then idiots get on here and say that if your parents are gay, its child abuse!!!
Seriously, if you want to talk about child abuse at least know something about it!
