The directors set the strategy for the company and also employ the CE deliver that strategy.
As an experienced director Mr Jones will have seen how high functioning boards operate and will hopefully help install change at EGR so that it can be included in this category. A functional board will agree the strategy and priorities for the CE to implement. This appointment may assist clarity on strategies and priorities within that strategy.
A well-functioning board will also hold the CE to account and if the CE isn't performing change the CE. This is a step closer to a board that would appear capable of doing this, if the problem is with the CE's execution rather than what the CE is being expected to do.
Hopefully this represents a turning point towards EGR realising the potential it has.
